Community Defense Act Loses in Kansas Senate

April 28, 2010

By the narrowest of margins, the Kansas Senate declined to advance the Community Defense Act, which would apply statewide regulation to sexually oriented business.  The vote was 20-20 when 21 were needed.

The Community Defense Act would protect Kansas communities by mandating midnight closings for sexually oriented businesses and not allowing them to be built within 1,000 feet of churches, schools, playgrounds, and homes.
