House Education Committee Hears School Choice Bill

March 18, 2011

The House Education Committee held a hearing Tuesday on legislation that would establish an educational choice program in Kansas.  Under the bill, individuals and corporations would receive a tax credit from their state taxes in exchange for making donations to approved educational choice non-profit organizations, which would use the money to fund private school scholarships for students.

Dr. Kathy O’Hara, superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, testified before the Committee and spoke to the Catholic Church’s support for public policies that maximize the ability of parents to provide for their children’s education.
