In two landmark decisions, the US Supreme Court struck down part of the federal Defense of Marriage Act and appears to have allowed same-sex marriages to resume in California. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops decried the rulings as mistaken and a “tragic day for marriage and our nation.”
